About Florida

Florida is a state in America. It borders with Alabama which is to the northwest and Georgia which is to the north. The oceans around Florida are the Gulf of Mexico which is to the west, the Atlantic Ocean which is to the east and the Caribbean which is to the south. Florida is the 27th state in the United States sins 1845.

Florida has a area of 65,758 square miles ( 170,312 km) and is ranked 22nd in size among the 50 U.S. states it also has the longest coastline in the United States which is approximately 1,350 miles ( 2,170 km). Florida has four large urban areas, a number of industrial cities and a lot of small towns.

Florida has been nicknamed the "Sunshine State" because of it warm climate-subtropical in the northern and central regions of the state and has a true tropical climate in the southern part of the state. It is estimated that the population of Florida in 2009 was 18,537.969 which ranked it as the fourth populous state in the U.S.
The state capital of Florida is Tallahassee, the largest city is Jacksonville and South Florida metropolitan area is the largest metropolitan area.

Florida is a popular holiday destination.
